Ecorse Public Schools Launches Fall 2025 Aviation Pilot Program for Incoming 9th Grade Students

Ecorse, MI — April 24, 2025 — In response to the growing demand for skilled professionals in the air transportation industry, Ecorse Public Schools is excited to announce the launch of its 2025–26 Fall Career and Technical Education (CTE) Aviation Pilot Program in collaboration with the Greater Detroit Consortia (Aviation & Aeronautics Initiative), exclusively for Incoming 9th grade students. This innovative program will give students a unique opportunity to explore aviation careers and build foundational skills in one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the air transportation industry—encompassing both passenger and freight operations—employed over 492,000 individuals as of May 2022. An additional 225,880 jobs supported the sector through critical roles such as air traffic control, airport operations, cargo handling, and aircraft maintenance and repair.

“The aviation industry is soaring, and so are the career opportunities within it,” said Dr. Josha Talison, Superintendent of Ecorse Public Schools. “Our new CTE Aviation Pilot Program is designed to give students early exposure to this dynamic field, from piloting and aerospace engineering to aviation management and ground operations.”

Through hands-on learning, industry-aligned curriculum, and potential partnerships with local airports and aviation professionals, students will gain insight into real-world applications and career pathways. The program will also emphasize STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) principles, teamwork, and problem-solving).

Enrollment for the Fall 2025 Aviation Pilot Program runs from June 2, 2025 through September 2, 2025.  Interested families are encouraged to attend the informational orientation regarding the program that will occur in August, 2025. District-wide Open Enrollment begins June 2, 2025 as well.
